  • Possess thorough knowledge of several testing tools
  • Be fluent in UNIX, Linux and/or Windows, as well as scripting and command-line tools
  • Be a multi-tasker
  • Be an excellent communicator (written and verbal) with development, operations, product management and customers
  • Have knowledge of various programming languages, such as Java, JavaScript, C# or C++, SQL, Python, PHP and Ruby on Rails

  • Some of the leading global organizations that created a large number of data science jobs include JPMorgan, Microsoft, Accenture, Adobe, Flipkart, Wipro, AIG, Deloitte, Vodafone, and EY. 
  • The top job roles in the field are analytics manager, data analyst, analytics consultant and data scientist.
  • Bengaluru tops the list of most number of data science jobs as it contributes to 27% of total data science jobs followed, which is 2% increase as compared to last year’s 25%.
  • Other cities that employ a large number of data scientists in the country are Delhi NCR and Mumbai.
  • Tier-II cities contribute to 14% of total job openings in data science and most of these jobs are created by emerging tech startups.
  • Data science and analytics has a big role to play in banking and financial sector. 41% of total published job listings for data science and analytics are the banking sector. Other industries that follow these jobs are energy & utility sector followed by pharmaceutical and healthcare.
  • Over 48% of data science and analytics roles are looking for BE or B.Tech graduates. Other 40% of jobs require a post-graduate degree while only 25% of openings require a relevant experience level of between 2-5 years. More than 37% of job openings are freshers.
  • The employers are moving away from technology and tool-based recruiting. Candidates with skills in Python have the highest demand. More than 39% of data science and analytics roles are taken by candidates with skills in Python. While skills in R come second at 25%. 
  • The report also highlights the salary earned by professionals in the field of data science and analytics. The average median salary offered in data science and analytics sector is Rs 10 lakh per annum, making it one of the highest paying tech fields in the country.
