HCL Technologies Hiring 2k in Madurai & Lucknow

Domestic IT major HCL Technologies today said it will hire up to 2,000 people at the global IT centre being set up here.

Unlike its peers HCL is focusing on small towns to open training centers and already has such centers in Madurai and Lucknow.

HCL senior vice-president Sanjay Gupta said Nagpur offers quality local talent and scalable infrastructure. Recruitments for the 50-acre Nagpur campus to be operational by next January at MIHAN will be conducted in three phases and 2,000 jobs will be offered.

“We are excited to start our operations in Nagpur. Through this initiative we aim to create 2,000 jobs in the city, creating a sustainable pipeline of local talent.”

He further said HCL has in the past 18 months started operations in Madurai in September and Lucknow in October and Nagpur will the third in its expansion plan in small towns.

When asked about the slowdown in IT hiring following the restrictions in the US, which is the largest market for domestic IT companies, Gupta said his company has very little dependency on H1B visas since most of its work is done here.

Indian IT companies have a bright future in US: Vishal Sikka

Indian IT companies have a bright future in US: Vishal Sikka

Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka calls the Trump Administration business-friendly and entrepreneurial. He also adds that the new American government offers tremendous opportunities to do innovative work.

“We see a tremendous opportunity to do innovative work.

The (Trump) administration is a very business administration, a very entrepreneurial administration,” Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka told PTI in an interview as he refuted reports that the Indian IT companies are facing challenges under the Trump Administration.

“I don’t feel that way,” he said in response to the question during a wide-ranging interview.

“As long as we can continue to focus on innovation, on value delivery in the new areas, I think things will be okay.

Infosys to Hire 20k this Year!!!

So IT is more and more as that. The underlying skills issue, the…Making sure that the workforce is something that is frontier of the future,” he said.

Sikka said the Trump Administration is taking steps to improve the atmosphere of doing business in the US.

“If you look at the, some of the regulated industries like banking or pharma, the emphasis has clearly shifted from valuably compliant towards innovative areas, new R&D, new adoption of financial services, new adoption of technologies for faster trading, better trading, better derivative analysis,” he said.

“Areas like that, rather than a lot of spending that used to go into regulatory compliance…In the US we notice a shift in these priorities towards innovative areas and so on,” said the Infosys CEO.

According to Sikka, Indian IT companies have a bright future in the US.

“Definitely (Indian IT companies have a bright future).

We have to be aligned to the future, we have to be aware of the changes that are happening around us. We have to sense and understand and respond to those by building in the software, the services, the capabilities for the future,” he said.

“And if we do that, then I am confident that we will be relevant, we will able to thrive and this is precisely what Infosys is doing,” Sikka said.

Indian IT companies, he noted, have made extraordinary progress in the last three and half decades.

“What has got us here has worked extraordinarily well. It has created an enormous success in the last three and a half decades. But this is not what is going to get us forward. We need to continue our core values of education, of learning, of what the future is,” he said.

“What I find after my three years of experience (in Infosys), is that the youth in India is ready for that (change). It is ready to embrace that. It is ready to be entrepreneurial, to be innovative.

“I find that one of the big challenges is to make sure that the people in senior management and so forth also understand what needs to be done and that the transformation of our processes the transformation of our mechanics, our systems, to support that future reality. That has to also happen,” Sikka said.

And that is not easy, he acknowledged.

“That is a very challenging thing to do. I mean, transformation in general is a very challenging thing to do.

And especially in our case, where our core business is under a margin pressure. It is exceedingly important to get that right,” he said.

Time to UpSkill YourSelf

Time to UpSkill YourSelf

Bask Iyer, CIO and Executive Vice-President of Dell and VMware, has sounded a warning for information technology (IT) employees: surf the oncoming technology waves all the time and upskill yourself, otherwise be prepared to leave IT.

“I am making sure that all my IT folks are best equipped to generate revenues rather than lay them off. People without the skill-sets to go ahead to the next level in a company will go anyway, that’s just the way it is,” Iyer said in an interview to The Hindu BusinessLine.

Iyer said the onus for upskilling lies with the employees themselves and not the organisations. “As for reskilling, no organisation provides for that because even they don’t know what to train employees on,” he said.

The IT employees themselves must figure out the future and upgrade their skills accordingly, Iyer said. “The need of the hour is to upskill—ride the right technology waves, change and shift with the oncoming technology waves, much like surfing. Techies must use and get familiar with new technologies, and sometimes guess what it is much ahead of time,” he said.

New technology is transforming the nature of business at IT companies. Increasing automation and cloud computing have hit revenues. Now there is less business in maintenance and software services, the traditional domain of Indian IT companies. New technology requires reskiling, and employees incapable of reskilling will be fired.

In India, this challenge becomes bigger. There is a glut of engineers in the country and most of them are not employable. Low-quality tech education and outdated curricula are old problems but they become more pronounced with automation and emerging technology reshaping businesses.

Though emerging technology makes a large number of jobs superfluous in the tech industry, the jobs replaced by automation do not go for good. The employees who upskill with latest software training themselves stay relevant in the industry.
